Elizabeth Alma Dorman Ulrich Cantrell
March 2, 1931 - November 14, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Elizabeth Alma Dorman Ulrich Cantrell–affectionately known as Liz–on November 14 in Orlando, Florida. Born on March 2,1931 in Erie, Pennsylvania, Liz was the eldest daughter of Lucille Parson Dorman and Kenneth Dorman. She was lovingly raised by her mother and grandfather, Nels Parson, who was known as “Papa.” As the eldest of three, she was the cherished big sister to Jeri and Joyce, cultivating a sisterly bond that transcended time and remained a source of joy throughout their lives. Together, in their Lawrence Park community, the three sisters were fondly referred to as the “Dorman Girls.”
Liz’s passion for music was evident from a young age and she enjoyed singing with school and church choirs. She was a founding member of the Stardusters, a group of talented friends from middle and high school who delighted audiences at local churches, private events, and even on the radio. Liz excelled in school and was a proud graduate of Lawrence Park High School’s Class of 1949.
Throughout life, Liz’s unwavering spirit allowed her to seamlessly balance her roles as a wonderful mother, devoted church member, and faithful friend. Alongside her first husband, Richard Ulrich, she raised four children with love and dedication. In 1964, their family moved from Erie to Orlando where Liz's secretarial career thrived, working for the City of Orlando for twenty years as an aide to City Commissioners and City Clerk. After she retired, she ministered through music by touring and recording with the Florida Baptist Singing Men and Women and by singing and playing the organ in Sunday services.
Liz is now reunited in heaven with beloved husband Claude Cantrell, as well her cherished sons, Gary Richard and James Lynn Ulrich, and her many treasured friends and family members. She leaves behind her devoted daughters, Carol Anne Ulrich Hempfield (Mike) and Nancy Jo Ulrich Mannix (Mike).
Liz’s boundless joy came from her grandchildren: Liza Mannix Jennings (Mike), Michael Mannix III (Emily), Amber Hempfield Veniard (Jonathan), Troy Hempfield (Philippa Moseley) and Haley and Savannah Ulrich. Her heart overflowed with love for her great-grandchildren: Clara Elizabeth and Maisy Jennings, Amelia Mae Veniard, and Mikey and Charlie Mannix–each a precious gift that brought immeasurable joy to her life.
With steadfast faith, Liz led a rich fulfilling life, choosing happiness and positivity every day until she was called home by the Lord. A humble servant, she was an active member of her community and church, where her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honor on Monday, December 2nd, at 11 am at Conway First Baptist Church. Liz cherished joyful gatherings and often chose to wear colorful attire, so we encourage attendees to do the same as we come together to remember and celebrate a life so richly lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, an organization dedicated to serving the hungry and homeless for 75 years. You can dedicate your gift to Liz’s memory and specify how it will be spent through the provided link.
