Ellen Burton passed away on September 15, 2022, under hospice care in Orlando, Florida. She was 77 years old, having lived in Orlando, Florida, since her family moved there in 1959 when she was 14 years old. Ellen was born on August 1, 1945, in a farmhouse in Silver Run, Maryland, to Wendell and Mabel Landfair.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Gary Lee Burton, his son Bill Burton, and granddaughter Ella Joy Burton, both of Rockledge, Florida. She is also survived by her sisters Joanne Frances Landfair (Mrs. Ciro Giorgio) of Phoenix, Arizona; Katherine Landfair of Orlando, Florida; Elizabeth Landfair of Orlando, Florida; and Margaret Landfair Webber (Stephen) of Robinson, Illinois; sister-in-law, Janice Aiken Landfair, of Sanford, Florida; many loving nieces and nephews; and her dog, Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell Eugene and Mabel Verna (Washabaugh) Landfair, and by her brothers, John Murray Landfair, II, of Orlando, Florida, and David Allen Landfair of Silver Run, Maryland.
Ellen was graduated from William R. Boone High School in 1963. She was graduated from Florida State University, where she majored in home economics, with a specialization in clothing and textiles, in 1967. She was a junior leader in 4-H, and she worked for a year as an extension agent in Highlands County, Florida. She taught home economics classes at William R. Boone High School for a year, and then at Walker Middle School, both in Orlando, Florida for 27 years.
Ellen married the love of her life, Gary Burton, on May 27, 1996, over 26 years ago. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her four sisters always looked up to their "big" sister; she was a wonderful sister to them and to her two brothers. As their first-born girl, Ellen was a much-appreciated assistant to her parents, especially in the kitchen. Ellen loved to quilt, sew, and cook, using all of her home economics knowledge and experiences. She was especially renowned for her baking skills; one of her recipes was selected for a national bake-off.
Her memorial service will be in January 2023 at Reformation Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orlando, Florida.
