Elvira (Vera) C. Romo, 95 years old, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 while in the hospice care of Vitas Healthcare in Orlando, Florida.
Vera married Tony on June 19, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. They raised five children in the "Windy City" before moving to Orlando, FL in 1998. Her family was everything to her and she was a loving, beautiful, selfless woman who displayed very strong family values. A great role model for her children.
Calumet Park is on the south side of Chicago and was a special playground to her family. It was huge with a beach right off Lake Michigan. We joined a family-oriented club cleverly called "The Ball and Chain". Summertime was the best with picnics, swimming, organized games, Easter egg hunts, etc. Bologna sandwiches and homemade cakes never tasted as good as they did at the park! Bologna sandwiches also appeared on the family's Drive-In movie night menu along with a famous large Tupperware bowl of homemade popcorn, making another indelible memory. We also did Christmas plays with the family club and even took a mini vacation on a ranch. Snow sledding on "the hill" at Calumet Park was also a fun way to wear us out for Mom!
Vera is preceded in death by her sister, Victoria Limas and beloved granddaughter, Leslie (Lolly) Lee. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Anthony (Tony) Romo, her sons Tony (Mary Winters) Romo, David (Chantal) Romo, Bob (Patti) Romo and daughters Chris (Raul) Marquez and Teresa (Joe Helenek) Romo-Helenek. Additionally, she is survived by her treasured grandchildren, great grandchildren and her adored great, great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 7 at 2:00 pm at Wayman Place, 342 South Wayman Street, Longwood, Florida 32750 (407) 265-9100.
