Cook, Eugene (Gene) J., Age 81, of Okeechobee, FL passed away peacefully on November 21,2009 in Orlando, FL. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Genevieve; his wife Margaret (Dec. 1973), his wife Grace (Nov. 1995); his sister Marie; and his grandson Perry.
He is survived by his children Michele (Alan) and Christopher; his step-children Sharon (Richard), Janet, Nancy, and John (Cheryl); his brothers John (Madolyn) and Ed (Joan); his sisters Agnes, Dolores (Sam), and Fran (Jack); 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on January 18, 1928 in Teaneck, NJ, Gene graduated in 1947 from Jesuit High
School, Tampa, FL. He served in the US Army during the Korean War overseeing the
transportation of American troops in Germany. Upon his return, he attended Ohio State University. He married his first wife Margaret Dec. 1959 and they relocated to Tampa, FL. During his career he worked for several central and south FL newspapers as an advertising salesman retiring in 1990 from the Palm Beach Post. Gene married his second wife Grace in August 1974 residing in Jupiter, FL and later Okeechobee, FL. He enjoyed travel, football, soccer, fishing, and tinkering in mechanics. He is loved and we will miss him more than words can express.
Arrangements in the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd., Orlando, FL 32822. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on Friday, Dec 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 5900 Oleander Dr., Orlando, FL 32807.
Gene will be inurned at Riverside Memorial Park, County Line Road, Tequesta, FL
33469 on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM and family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
