Evelyn "Naomi" McCulley Hall Williams Knecht
After failing health died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 in her apartment at Westchester ALF, Winter Park, FL under the loving care of Hospice.
Naomi was born in Oviedo, FL on April 16, 1918 to Charlie and Winnie McCulley. She was a life-time member of Oviedo Methodist Church. The oldest of three children she moved to Orlando as a young woman where she met and married her first husband, G.G. "Shorty" Hall in 1937. Together they had two children.
In 1946 they opened the third flower shop in Orlando naming it after their six month old daughter-calling it Peggy Jo's Garden. Later the name was changed to Flowers by Peggy Jo. Naomi was very active in the floral industry holding many offices in the related florist organizations. She was a charter member of the Central Florida Florist Assn; district Director of the State Florist Assn. Board; held offices in FTD and participated in many other State and National activities.
Her husband, "Shorty" was a member of Orlando Rotary and donated flowers every week to the club. The tradition was continued after Shorty's death in 1977. Naomi was honored to be presented the "Paul Harris" Fellowship Award and also " A Friend of Rotary".
In 1970 she married Edward L. Williams and he worked at the flower shop until his failing health in 1997. Naomi retired for the first time in 1985, at which time her daughter, Peggy "Jolene" became the owner. She continued to be active in the shop until her marriage to Leonard Knecht in 1991.
Naomi is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Hall) Jones (Robert F.) of Orlando; son, Gehrig "Butch" Hall (Debbie) of Orlando; husband, Leonard Knecht of Dover, AK; sister, Margaret (McCulley) Pounds, Indianola, MS; brother, Charlie (Chuck) McCulley (Norma) of Orlando; granddaughter, Nikki Morrow and 2 great grandchildren, Matthew Spahn and Kelsey Morrow of Orange City, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wed. Jan. 2, 2007 in the Chapel of Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd. Orlando with James Hodsdon officiating. Interment will follow at Oviedo Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the angles of Hospice of the Comforter for their tender loving care of Naomi and us. We also wish to thank the staff, nurses and CNAs at Westchester ALF. Each of you holds a special place in our hearts for helping us through this time of stress and sorrow.
