Faye Shumaker, 71, of Orlando, FL passed away on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021.
Faye was born December 3, 1949 in Chicago, IL. the oldest of 4 daughters born to Clarence and Gloria Shumaker. Not long after her birth the family returned to Western Pennsylvania where 3 more sisters were added to the family. In the early 1960's the family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where Faye attended a sheltered workshop due to her Down's Syndrome. In the early 1980's she moved with her parents to Sarasota, FL where she attended Children's Haven sheltered workshop. There she blossomed socially and became a Girl Scout and a member of Civitan Club. She participated in Special Olympics, bowling, attended a special needs Sunday School and attended various special needs summer camps. In 2009 Faye made her final move to Orlando, FL where she attended Primrose Center's Adult Day Training. She loved to attend summer camp every year at Quest's Camp Thunderbird. Her favorite activities were socializing with friends and family, singing, working search-a-word books and crocheting long strings of nothing!
Faye loved her family and had the unique ability to remember birthdays, anniversaries and even recall the ages of each family member even though she had the intellect of a young elementary aged child. She was quite advanced socially however, and would captivate anyone willing to carry on a conversation. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence. She is survived by her mother, Gloria, sister and brother-in-laws Barbara & Danny Snyder, Holly & David Davis, Judith and Bruce Pauline along with nieces and nephews Scott & Marcie Davis, Heather & Raj Belanger, DJ & Jeannette Snyder, Kevin Pauline, Kristen Pauline & Ted Soper and grand nieces and nephews Chloe, Kylie, Caleb & Colin Davis, Dylan, Lincoln & Lucy Belanger, & Megan Snyder.
A private celebration of Faye's life will take place in the near future.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers during this time. We are eternally grateful.
