On April 9th 1955, in Greenville, SC, Floyd Carl "Buster" Leavitt, Jr was born to Floyd Carl Leavitt, Sr and Hazel Joyce Hardee Witherspoon Leavitt.
Buster came from large family, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. His extended family was even larger with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Brought up in a military family, the Leavitts moved throughout the United States. It was in 1959 Floyd Leavitt, Sr brought his family to Orlando, FL.
Buster attended Union Park Elementary, Union Park Jr. High and graduated from Winter Park High School in 1973. Everyone who knew Buster growing up can attest to his mild and wild days.
It was during his high school days (unbeknownst to him) he met his future wife. Buster met Janet when he was 16 through his sister Donna (Donna and Janet were best friends). After high school, Buster served in the the Army. Upon returning from the Army in 1976, Buster reunited with Janet and the two lived with his sister Donna briefly before they eventually moved into their own apartment.
On June 24, 1979, Buster decided (on his day off), he was going to marry Janet. He took Janet to the courthouse to get the papers and blood work done.
Fast forward to a year later (the day before the marriage license expired) Buster took Janet to the Kissimmee Florida courthouse to get married because he "did not want to redo the blood test". This blissful day was June 25, 1980. The newlyweds spent their wedding day at Busch Gardens Tampa, FL. Their original wedding was planned for July 11th at grandma Hardee House in Apopka FL.
While walking into the courthouse, Janet asked, "What if we can't have kids?" Buster replied, "It doesn't matter. Knowing who you are, God will give us a child."
Two years later, God gave them a child. May 18, 1983 at 1:40pm in Orlando, FL Robert Christopher Leavitt was born. Buster was beside himself. He paced back and forth and wandered throughout the hospital. After being paged multiple times, Buster finally showed up during the delivery of his first child. Upon seeing his newborn baby, he shouted out, "He's got balls- huge f'ing BALLS!" Needless to say, he was excited to have his son.
It wasn't long until Buster and Janet welcomed their second child. Jennifer Nichole Leavitt was born December 17, 1986 in Orlando, FL. Buster was by Janet's side throughout the labor and delivery. When Jennifer was born, Buster's sister Donna exclaimed, "She look like she came outa his [butt], she looks just like him."
The family of four lived in Orlando for the past 30 years. During these years they made many new friends, were active members of SNL, owned a variety of dogs and traveled together.
Buster's extensive knowledge for the automotive industry lead him to opening his first auto repair shop in May 2005, in Bithlo, FL. He was an active owner and manager. Buster successfully managed the the Bithlo location and opened a second shop in Oviedo, FL. Both shops closed in February of 2011.
2009 was a very busy year for Buster as in August he witnessed both his son get married and his daughter give birth to his granddaughter Kylie.
Floyd "Buster" Leavitt was a great provider and left a great legacy behind for both his family and friends. Floyd was a man who understood and valued hard work. Although he may not be here physically, we know every time we turn that wrench, grill that burger, tip back that beer and give hugs to our loved ones, Floyd will always be with us.
Floyd is survived by his wife Janet C. Leavitt; son, Robert Christopher Leavitt; daughter, Jennifer Nichole Leavitt; granddaughter, Kylie D. Smoot; mother, Hazel Joyce Leavitt; sister, Donna (Lumpkin); sister, Susan; brother, David; sister, Betty (Blackburn); brother, Earl; brother, Richard and daughter-in-law Marianne S. Leavitt.
