Dr. Forrest W. Flaniken, Jr. went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2012. Forrest was a committed man of God, a loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal brother, a caring son and a faithful friend. Forrest was a Senior Vice President of Wycliffe Bible Translators. He passionately followed Jesus Christ and wanted all people from around the world to have access to the Bible in their heart language so that they might know Christ and worship him. He prioritized time with his family above his job and his hobbies. He took Kristen on dates and getaways, and he was consistently invested in the lives of Chipper, Nelson, and Spencer.
Forrest was an avid and disciplined athlete and an accomplished piano player. He earned degrees from Davidson College, Vanderbilt University and the University of Central Florida. He filled many other roles, including Little League coach, adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and occasional pianist at the Life Care Center and the Bridge. He was an active and faithful member of University Presbyterian Church. He waits in the presence of God to be reunited with his beautiful wife Kristen, his sons Chipper (Forrest III), Nelson, and Spencer, his siblings Eleanor, Jeff, and Jim, his parents Forrest Sr. and Joanne, his daughter-in-law Kristen, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. We are so thankful that Forrest is rejoicing in the presence of God!
Your prayers and support during this difficult time bless us more than you know. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that gifts be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators (designate the Forrest Flaniken Memorial Fund in the memo line), PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862.
