Frances Burd

May 27, 1927 — August 16, 2024

Orlando

Age 97, Frances died peacefully surrounded by family. She was born May 27, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN, the only child of Walter Bogart Myrick and Mildred (Hampton) Myrick.

She attended the University of Chattanooga as an art major. She spent many years at home raising her six children and later was employed as a layout artist and proofreader at a newspaper. When Hospice came to the US in the 1980’s she became a volunteer and found her calling working with others in need. Fran worked for many years for The Welcome Wagon, a community service that welcomed newcomers to the area. She served in a similar capacity to welcome new residents to Westminster Towers in Orlando where she lived from 2010-2022. She enjoyed organizing the Bingo games for the residents there. She loved to travel, especially aboard cruise ships. She was an avid reader, enjoyed water aerobics, and was always on the go, prompting the family to affectionately call her their “Energizer Bunny.” She moved to Starlight Assisted Living in Deland in 2022.

She is survived by five children: Melinda (Phil) Strong of Torrance, CA; David (Debbie) Lee of Woodstock, GA; Lorien (David) Prince of Longwood, FL; Kevin (Denise) Lee of Powell, TN; and Arlis (Dan) Greaf of Knoxville, TN. Nicknamed Mimi and also known as Grandma Hummingbird, because she was always humming, she had ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert E. Lee (1925-1988), and husband Paul M. Burd (1925-1987), partner John P. Boettger (1920-2010), and young son Robert (Rickey) Myrick Lee (1949-1955).
