Frances Daniel Divine
Frances Russell Daniel Divine died on April 13, 2010. She was born in Gordon, Georgia, on September 21, 1917, the only child of Abner Beatrice Strozier Daniel and Jesse Wiley Daniel, and moved to Orlando when she was four.
She graduated from Rollins College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and took graduate courses at Columbia University in social work. She was employed as a social worker in the State of Florida before she married and resumed her work once her children were grown.
Frances was active in her community and church, serving as president of the PTA at her childrens' schools and ordained as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church. At the time of her death, she had belonged to the church longer than any other member. She had a deep curiosity about many things in the world and was passionate and knowledgeable about her numerous interests, especially the world of nature. An avid birder, she also grew orchids, specializing in Vandas, and was a longtime member of the Florida Orchid Society, serving as its president.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Divine, III, daughter Beatrice Divine, Atlanta; son John H. Divine IV, daughter-in-law Pepper Hair, grandson John Cummings Divine, Charlotte; and son Daniel Divine, Clermont.
A memorial service will be held at the Reformation Chapel, First Presbyterian Church, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Infant Child Care Center, 106 E. Church St., Orlando 32801 or the Justice and Peace Office Inc., 800 S.
