Francis A. "Frank" Jones Jr. died December 25, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Frank was born August 21, 1920. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Sophia Jones, sisters, Eleanor and Miriam, brother, George and his childhood sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Juel.
Frank served in the Navy during World War II aboard the attack cargo ship, USS Chara. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked for Westinghouse in their aircraft turbine engine plant in Philadelphia. When Westinghouse closed in 1954, Frank moved his family to Florida. He wanted to be close to the ocean as he was an avid fisherman. For most of his adult life in Florida he fished offshore every weekend that the weather would permit. He also taught Boating Safety and Navigation classes for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He volunteered his time and talent to the City of Orlando Board of Examiner's Electrical Sign Serviceman, for ten years.
He worked for several sign companies, but spent over 25 years at Mel Web that had manufacturing plants in Orlando and Daytona and in the northeast. They manufactured signs throughout the state and had contracts with Disney World, Sea World and the Orlando International Airport. They also installed the lighting and timing equipment that operated Orlando's Lake Eola Fountain.
He is survived by his son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Peggy Jones and by many nieces, nephews and treasured friends. Thank you to Vitas Hospice for their loving care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Rite of Committal at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, FL.
