Frankjohn Altomari, 54, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on January 27 after a courageous battle with tinnitus affecting his mental health.
Frank was born on June 25, 1969 to Adrienne and Jerry Altomari in Mount Vernon, New York. After Frank graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1987 he went on to study psychology at SUNY Purchase, earning his degree in 1992.
After moving from New York to Florida, Frank became a social worker and spent decades advocating for children in central Florida. He spent the last years of his career at the Foundation for Foster Children in Winter Park. At the Foundation, Frank worked to enhance the lives of children through support and advocacy, giving them opportunities for a brighter future. Generations of children had better lives due to Frank's passionate commitment to their welfare and well-being.
The love of Frank's life was his wife of 17 years, Nikaury Muñoz. Together they biked many trails, kayaked through Florida's wetlands, danced at concerts, traveled near and far, and built a beautiful life together. Nikaury gave Frank the greatest gift of his life: the opportunity to become a step-father to her two extraordinary children, Adrian Bailon and Samantha Bailon.
Frank took joy in so many pursuits. The constant passion of his life was surfing. He learned to surf in the frigid waters of Long Beach, Long Island, and continued to chase waves his entire life. Frank loved to bike, to cook, to listen to music, and to watch a good movie. The word that best describes Frank is kind. He was the kindest, gentlest, most loving person. It was impossible not to love Frank and his hilarious, sarcastic sense of humor. Frank knew how to laugh, and he knew how to make people laugh in turn. The world is a less vibrant place without Frank.
Frank is survived by his wife, Nikaury Muñoz; his children Adrian Bailon and Samantha Bailon; his parents, Adrienne and Jerry Altomari; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Melida and Dario Peralta; his sister Lisa Altomari; his brother-in-law Nick DiGiovanni; his sisters-in-law Aliky Muñoz and Darilyn Peralta; his nephews Jack Ruhland and Liam Leocadio; his nieces Kimberly Toribio and Amerie Gonzalez; his aunts Emily Consolazio, Anna Lillo and Mary Altomari; and his cousins Lori Cosby, Amy Wright, Elizabeth DiNaopli and Tara Galati.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, on Thursday, February 1 at 4:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Foundation for Foster Children (2265 Lee Road, Suite 203, Winter Park, Florida, 32789).
