Gary Lee Butler, age 74, of Orlando, FL, passed away Sunday morning, December 10, 2022.
Gary was born on October 7, 1948, in Alexandria, Virginia, to his late parents Warren (Doc) and Virginia (Ginny) Butler. He attended Washington-Lee High School and later the University of Virginia where he met his first wife, Peggy Daffan.
He enjoyed tennis and golf (both playing and watching) and loved to spend Sunday afternoons with a glass of Jack and Coke cheering on his favorite football team, the Washington Commanders.
Gary never met a stranger, and as a born storyteller, could turn a trip to the grocery store into an epic quest. His natural charm and wit served him well throughout his career in the financial services industry.
Gary moved from Virginia to West Palm Beach in 1992 which brought him closer to his two passions – boats and space exploration. He pursued both from the comfort of his personal "Command Center" – religiously following launches from Kennedy Space Center and YouTube sailing adventures.
In his later years he was most often found in the company of one or more of his canine companions, Nikki, Bonnie, and Mazzy.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Marilou Brown; his daughter Hope Bryer, her husband Sasha Zelenovic, and grandson Alec of Arlington VA; his daughter Eden Butler of Round Hill, VA; and his daughter Heather Butler-Brown, and grandson Luca Carulli-Brown of Orlando, FL.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 2:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home.
