Gary Lee Erwin

May 14, 1953 — December 9, 2016

Gary was born in Salinas California on May 14th 1953, to Sidney Treat Erwin and Mildred Mae Erwin. He was the 3rd child and had four siblings; one brother and three sisters. He lost his father at the tender age of six from an aneurysm, so his mother moved her five children to Farwell, Texas to be close to her parents.

Gary grew up in Farwell and played football, basketball and track. He graduated from Farwell High school with honors, was voted Homecoming King and Steer of the year. He went to West Texas State for two years and graduated from Hardin Simmons with a business degree. From there he enlisted in the Marines serving as a Captain for four years. In 1990 he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Biblical Studies. It was in 1991 that he met his wife Gigi, while they were both working for a Hospice organization. They dated for three years, and in 1995 they were married in Dallas Texas at Fellowship Bible Church where they attended. Gigi had a daughter from a previous marriage named Darcy, that he came to love as his own. She married her husband Chris in 2001, and they later had a son named Dylan.

Gary and Gigi shared many a vacation with her parents, Joyce and Albert Ash. One year they also went to Destin to spend the week with Darcy and her family. He and his Family took trips to Disneyworld, Seaworld, and went deep sea fishing. Gary and Gigi took trips to Israel and Hawaii.

Gary spent the last several years working for Wellcare as a district sales manager. His co-workers were amazed as his restraint when things would get hectic. The worst he would say was "cotton pickin!" Gary Loved the Lord, he loved his family, his two cats Dusty and Izzy, and of course the Cowboys.

In November of 2014 he was diagnosed with Leukemia. His sister, Pam, donated bone marrow for a transplant in 2015, and he fought his illness for two years. He was a thoughtful and generous man with a wonderful sense of humor, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family that love him.
