Gary Schmidt, of Orlando, Florida passed away on April 10, 2014 where he resided for 17 years. He was a former employee of Aon/Hewitt Associates in Orlando until he was forced to retire from his role as a Benefits Specialist prematurely due to a disability.
Gary was born in Mineola, New York on October 18, 1952. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1975 with a dual degree in Psychology and Sociology. Prior to moving to Orlando he also lived in Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH, Phoenix, AZ, and Long Island, New York.
Gary will be remembered for his zest for life, faith in the lord, and compassion and kindness towards people, nature, and animals. He was an active and devout Christian and faithful member of the "Joy Group" at University Presbyterian Church in Orlando.
Gary enjoyed music, travel, the arts, movies, concerts, amusement parks, playing the accordion, calligraphy, and drawing. He was also a loyal and avid fan of Petula Clark with whom he had the privilege to meet and dine with on multiple occasions.
Gary is survived by his mother, Frances Schmidt of Willow Spring, NC; brother and sister in-law, Paul and Judy Schmidt of Apex, NC; and sister, Kim Schmidt of Willow Spring. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene "Bud" Schmidt of Willow Spring, NC and also left behind several pets, his dogs NuNu, Max, and cat Cleo.
A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held in a Memorial Service in his honor on May 3, 2014 at 3:00 pm at University Presbyterian Church, 2562 Rouse Rd, Orlando, FL 32817.
In lieu of flowers, the Schmidt family requests that gifts be given to University Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund in honor of Gary who had a great love for the mission of the Deacons.
