George Oakley, our much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of 14 September 2021 after a short but difficult battle with multiple infections. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1940 and took great pride in his Ohio heritage and all things Ohio especially The Ohio State University (much to the dismay of his Michigan family). He spent his young life growing up in Ohio and Florida before settling in Detroit, Michigan.
While in Michigan, George attended classes at Wayne State University and worked for Manufacturers Bank in Detroit and later Livonia. He started as a teller and made his way up to 2nd VP in Livonia. He became a father to three children with his first wife, Dolores. He loved and was proud of all three of them. In his 50s, George returned to Florida to be close to his brother and escape the cold northern winters. In Florida, he met and spent the last thirty years of his life with his partner and wife Emily whom he loved greatly.
George enjoyed music of all kinds (especially Christmas music) and spending time socializing with friends. He was happy with a vodka and tonic, a good cheap cigar and an Ohio State football victory on an autumn Saturday. Put in Bay, Ohio was one of his favorite places on earth and when he had a boat he would travel there frequently over a weekend. His fifteen minutes of fame came with his victory in the Orchard Meadows subdivision riding lawnmower race.
George is survived by his wife of 23 years, Emily, his brother Donald, his three adult children, George, Karen (Delhey), and Eric and grandsons Bradley and Kyle.
