George Mickell "Mike" Smith, age 78, of Orlando, FL passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, following an extended illness. He was surrounded by family with a waiting room full of friends. Born June 11,1944 in an orange grove in Orlando, FL, Mike is the son of Ruth Clanton and Henry Adam Smith.
A retired US Navy radioman, Mike was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his military service in 1987, he undertook another way to serve his country with US Customs & Border Protection, subsequently retiring from that role in 2007.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Ruth, father Henry, brother Theodore Killen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike was a dedicated husband to his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Cochran) Smith of Orlando, FL; a devoted father to his children, Christopher Smith of Orlando; Dawn Noel and husband Kevin of Orlando; and Bryan Smith and wife Crystal of Auburn, AL. He was also the proud grandfather of Kyle Smith, Nathan Smith, Zachary Smith, Jacob Noel, Madisyn Noel, and Ella Smith. He is also survived by his brother Lewis Mitchell Smith and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing and services will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, November 21 at Newcomer Funeral Home (895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL). The interment will follow at 2:30pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery (5525 US-1, Mims, FL).
