d. January 18, 2011

After battling leiomyosarcoma since 2007, George Thermes Witta, 63, of Orlando succumbed, passing away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He will be best remembered for his smile, wit, sense of humor and, most of all, his loving heart.
George was born in Sutter Creek, Ca., on January 23, 1947, son of Fred Witta, Jr. and Mary-Belle Seibel Witta. Because his father was a career military officer, George spent his youth traveling to various stations within the United States and in Germany completing high school in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Texas A&M University.
In 1971 George moved to Virginia beginning his professional career with S&S Corporation (later Simmons-Rand) as a cost accountant. He progressed to data processing manager setting up all the data processing systems for this corporation and then returned to accounting manager. In 1996 George accepted a position as comptroller for a company in Mississippi and in 1999 moved to Orlando, Florida, beginning a new career in teaching with Valencia Community College. He remained in this position until his illness prohibited working. During his tenure at Valencia he influenced many students' lives.
George was preceded in death by his mother, father, big brother, Ronald Roddan, and brother-in-law, Tom J. Altizer. Those remaining behind while he begins this new journey include his loving wife for 39 years, Lea Altizer Witta; daughters – Lori Witta Connell of Orlando, and Christina Witta Gillespie and spouse, Jason, of Short Hills, NJ; son – Benjamin George Witta of Orlando; granddaughter – Morgan Leanne Connell; brother – Fred L. Witta and spouse, Pat , of San Antonio, Tx.; sister – Mary Kay Funari and spouse, Bobby, of San Antonio, Tx; sister-in-law, Joan Roddan, of Melbourne, Fl. and London, England; sister-in-law, Faye Napier Altizer of Hagerstown, Md.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
