George Wright, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, with his five loving children by his side.
Born in China on August 15, 1933 to Edith Kwok & John Lai Wright, George had six siblings: Gilbert, Edward, John, Edith, Jane, and Lisa. At the age of 5, George and his family moved to Nicaragua where they resided for six years before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. George attended LSU and attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He began his career working for Morton Thiokol and Reaction Motors in their rocket testing facility. You see, Poppy really was a rocket scientist! During the 1970s, he entered the commercial real estate industry where he worked until he retired.
In 1958, George met the great love of his life, Mary Carey. They were married April 28, 1961 and shared 50 beautiful years together before Mary's death in 2011. Together, they raised five children: Michael, Kathy, Karen, Patricia and James. George's children took great pride in having the "fun dad," always making time to play outside with the kids. Later, his 16 grandchildren could always count on their "Poppy" to push them on the swings, toss them in the air or climb with them in the tree.
Family was always the number one priority for George and Mary. Together they provided their children with everything they will ever need: a perpetual source of love, joy, comfort and security because of who they were and how they loved… unconditionally.
