Georgia Lee (Cook) Ferguson was born on October 11, 1932, and died on February 12, 2024.
Georgia was 91 years and 4 months old at the time of her passing. She passed away peacefully in her room at Springhill Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility in Lake Mary, Florida. She was surrounded by her daughter Kathy Sue Hill, granddaughter Kristen C. Tellier and Kristen's husband Jeremy Tellier at 3:00 AM on February 12, 2024.
She was born in a small town in southern Indiana, called Wildcat, in Greene County on October 11, 1932. Georgia graduated from Bloomfield High School with her high school diploma at Bloomfield, Indiana in 1950.
She was married to Donald Bert Ferguson on June 24,1950 promptly after graduating from high school. After working at many professions, she established a career in investment banking. She worked her way up from a coupon clerk to Vice President of Trust Operations for SunTrust in Orlando, Florida. Her career with SunTrust and other financial institutions spanned a period of over forty years and she was especially proud of her accomplishments and rise thru the ranks at SunTrust. She established many friends and business associates in her workplace and thru her personal outside interests.
She was a member of and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 8207 in Longwood, Florida. She was also active in several clubs affiliated with the Sahara Grotto in Indianapolis and Bahia Shrine Temple in Orlando, Florida while her husband was still alive.
She had a special fondness for playing bingo with her friends at the VFW and Springhill ALF. She loved to do crafts, and enjoyed sewing, art and collecting miniatures. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cooking for her family in her younger years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald B. Ferguson, both parents, William Earl Cook and Ruth Marie (Fuller) Cook. She was also preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters. She was the youngest child in her family and was raised by her widowed mother and older siblings as her father died when she was just seven years old, Her brothers were Sherril Cook, William Cook, Harold Cook, Vernon Leo Cook, Elijah Eugene Cook, and Loren Ellis Cook. Her sisters were Fern Marie (Cook) Hasler and Verna Lee (Cook) Fathauer. Georgia was also preceded in death by her devoted companion, Mr. Ralph Hayes Sr. of Dade City Florida.
Georgia is survived by her three children--Ronald E (Linda) Ferguson, Patsy A. (Ferguson)(Mike) Cannon, and Kathy Sue (Ferguson)(Donald L.) Hill. She is also survived by four grandchildren—Jamie L Priddy, Kristen C (Ferguson) (Jeremy) Tellier, Jennifer L. Ferguson and Meghan Lee Hill. There are also six surviving great grandchildren—Tyler Anne Ferguson, Abigail D. Planker, Camryn G Tellier, Nova L Tellier, Hunter M. Wright and Lennox S. Tellier.
Georgia had a favorite quote "I'm thrifty". She worked hard all her life and chose to spend and invest wisely. The banker in her was ingrained in her very being. She loved each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.
Funeral arrangements will be held beginning with viewing and visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 895 South Goldenrod Road in Orlando. Florida. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in downtown Orlando, Florida. Graveside services will be conducted by Newcomer and inspirational words and scriptures will be offered by Mr. Jose (Tito) Rodriguez, a dear friend of the Ferguson family. Eulogies will be offered by several family members and friends and family are encouraged to speak and offer their memories of Georgia. The funeral will take place on February 20,2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Georgia to either the
Alzheimer's Association® or
Shriners Hospitals for Children.
