Gerald Stanley Penberthy
July 30, 1944-July 22, 2015
On July 22, 2015, Gerald "Jerry" Stanley Penberthy received his wings and was called home to be with the Lord. Jerry was a hard worker and an entrepreneur. As a small boy, he worked in his dad's pharmacy, until his dad passed away when he was only 13.
Jerry never centered his life around material gain. Instead, he had a pure heart to give, and he loved and served mankind. He lived a very simple life, and he always remained positive, no matter the situation. He overcame many struggles and accidents throughout his life, but he always believed that "if you can't do anything about a situation, move on, because there's no sense dwelling on something that can't be changed."
Born at Orange General Hospital in Orlando, Florida, Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Pierce Edward Penberthy, his mother, Annie Laurie Penberthy, and his brother, Pierce Edward Penberthy, Jr.
Jerry was an amazing father and grandfather, and his family was his whole world! He adored his daughter, Michele Leigh Lay, and his son, Jerry Stanley Penberthy, Jr. He was known as "Pops" by his grandkids, and he loved them with all his heart. He enjoyed every minute he spent with them, and he always looked forward to his next visit. He had 3 grandsons, Jacob Alexander Penberthy, Adyn William Penberthy, and Joshua Zane Lay. He had 2 granddaughters, Jaycie Blake Lay and Elena Maria Penberthy.
Jerry had a sister-in-law, Barbara Lytel, a nephew, Todd Penberthy, and a niece, Debbie Penberthy. Todd's 2 children are Pierce Penberthy and Rollie Penberthy. Jerry also left behind his cousins, Justine Meadows and Maurine Caraway Ham. Justine's husband is Edward Lee Meadows, Sr., and their 3 children are Edward Lee Meadows, Jr., Cindy Ann Meadows, and Jon Stephen Meadows. Maurine's daughter is Nina Ham Clark and her son is Nigel Ham. Jerry's companion and loving partner for the past 10 years was Marcia Angelo. She enjoyed his simple life and was always by his side.
Jerry graduated high school from Florida Military School, and he went on to get his Bachelor's Degree at Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division for the United States Army, and he was also an instrument rated pilot. He enjoyed flying privately, prior to several accidents he had that prevented him from doing so anymore.
Jerry always enjoyed life on the water at Lake Monroe with his late brother, Pierce. He was currently living on a houseboat, and his passion in life was spending his time fishing with many of his great friends on this same lake. Jerry was the best friend you could have, and he treasured his precious friends. He was always a ray of sunshine around everyone he came in contact with.
Jesus took Jerry home from a sudden illness. His desire was to have a simple, intimate family and friend gathering with the ones he held dearest to his heart, his loving family and closest friends. Newcomer Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements, and Steve Farris will be presiding over his service. Charity Manco is providing the beautiful music, and Lon Wagner is in charge of the recording of the service. In honor of Jerry's Father, memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association. Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online by going to "shared memories" at www.NewcomerOrlando.com. Our family would like to sincerely thank each and every person who is taking part in Jerry's celebration of life!
Jerry, we will all miss you every single moment until we are side by side with you again!!!
