Geronimo (Gerry) V. Canlas, age 81, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024. His birthday was on November 6, 1943 and he was born in the Pampanga province of the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Geronimo Z. Canlas and Angela Canlas, as well as his brothers Edilberto V. Canlas, Jeremias V. Canlas and sister Pacencia C. Abiog. Gerry was a loving son and loyal sibling.
He is survived by his wife, Teresita (Tessie) Canlas; Daughters, Rachel C. Rivera and Leah C. Nash, as well as Rachel's husband Jonathan and son Hudson J. Rivera, Leah's husband Michael, his sisters, Angelina C. Dancel and Mediatrix C. Santos, brother, Resty V. Canlas and their respective spouses, John, Paul and Trix.
Family was important to Gerry. He was devoted to his wife Tessie, whom he was married to for 52 years. He loved and cared for his daughters, Rachel and Leah, and provided for his family throughout his life with wisdom and generosity. Gerry also valued his extended family of siblings, spouses, nephews, nieces of both the Canlas and Reyes sides. He was beloved to all.
Gerry graduated from Far Eastern University with a medical degree in 1968 and practiced at multiple hospitals throughout his career. He retired from Parrish Medical Center in 1995 after 27 years of practicing anesthesiology.
Gerry took great pride as Lolo to his grandson, Hudson, whom he loved very much. Living in the same building, they were able to see each other often and we are sure that Hudson has many loving memories of learning and praying with his Lolo.
Gerry and Tessie also have a large group of friends who love them both dearly. This circle of friends has been celebrating and traveling together for over 30 years. Our family is eternally grateful to all of his friends who provided much love and joy in Gerry's life, as well as for their support during this difficult time.
Please see below for the funeral service date and time. There will not be a viewing, per Gerry's request. His ashes will be with us for the service.
An additional mass and placing of his urn will occur in late December. Please visit this site for more information on that service.
