Gertina Dorothy Eccleston

August 5, 1934 — February 12, 2025

Orlando, FL

Gertina Dorothy Eccleston, affectionately known as Aunt Dor, born on August 5,1934 to the late Mable Nichol and John Eccleston in Trelawny on the beautiful island of Jamaica, West Indies. She was the fourth of six siblings. Predeceased by her two brothers, Sidney and Percy, and two sisters, Essie and Gladys.

Gertina attended Troy Primary School in Trelawny. On completion she worked with the Department of Agriculture in Kingston Jamaica, West Indies.

At the invitation of her cousin Pearl in the 1970s, she migrated to Queens, New York and resided there for several years.

With autoimmune diseases, health failing, and receiving a dreadful diagnosis of having 3 weeks to live, Gertina was transferred to a Bronx, NY hospital on April 10, 1994. Shortly after was referred to hospice care. Allan decided then to accept the responsibility of being her caregiver. Her fate was placed in the hands of our loving God, and with divine intervention, she was on the road to recovery.

In 1998, Gertina accepted the gospel call, and on August 22 the same year was baptized and became a member of the Philadelphia Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bronx NY. As a member she was assigned the office of Deaconess. She served faithfully to the best of her ability and subsequently received an Appreciation Award.

With Gertina's desire for warmer weather, she joyfully relocated with Allan to Orlando, FL on December 2, 2009, where he continued to be her caregiver until her passing on February 12, 2025.

Gertina (Aunt Dor) was a faithful servant of God, with a meek and quiet demeanor. She was loving, kind and caring. She enjoyed cooking and would seek opportunities to feed friends and family with her delicious recipes. Her favorite pastime was gardening and doing Bible Word-Finds.

Gertina leaves behind her only surviving sibling and sister, May Clarke who resides in Rochester, NY, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, dear friends, and memories we will all cherish.

Although we mourn her passing, we don’t grieve as those who have no hope. We are assured that it won’t be long now until we will be reunited with Gertina and our loved ones who are resting in Jesus.

She will be dearly missed!
