Gordon Sweek of Orlando died peacefully on Sunday, July 10th at his home.
Gordon was born in Aberdeen, Scotland to Bertram and Barbara Sweek on May 25, 1917. He served in Britain's Home Guard during World War II and was a distinguished member of the Masonic Lodge both in England and the United States. Gordon brought his family to Canada in 1956 and then moved to the United States in 1957. He was a highly regarded Precision Optical Engineer designing many types of fixtures still used in the industry today. He moved to Orlando upon his retirement in 1986. He was very proud of his accomplishments and passed on his knowledge to many. He loved photography and was still tinkering with cameras and developing his own black and white film. He was a man of integrity and devoted to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all. Gordon was preceded in death by his beautiful wife and soul mate of 67 years, Kathleen who passed away in February. He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Rye and son-in-law, Brian of Canada, his son Stewart and daughter-in-law, Donna of Orlando, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held with family and friends at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando on Thursday, July 14th at 1:00 PM.
