Granville "Chief" Hammonds, age 71, of Winter Springs, Florida, passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
Granville is preceded in death by his parents, Charles "Buddy" Hammonds and Lanie Gibbs; older brother Craven Hammonds; and his granddaughter Alicia Hammonds.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hammonds. His brother Caldwell Hammonds and wife Sandy of Florida; his children Jeffrey Hammonds and fiancée Veronica Jones of Florida, Gregory Hammonds and wife Denys of Washington, David McCarthy of Florida, Sean McCarthy and wife Lynn of Massachusetts, and Chandra LaPointe and husband Chris of Florida; grandchildren Teresa Siltanen and husband Sampo of Finland, Ryan Hammonds of Georgia, Dylan and Dakota Hammonds of Florida, Kyle and Sydney McCarthy of Massachusetts, Devlin VerPault and Thomas O'Neil of Florida; and nephew Johnny Hammonds of North Carolina.
Member of the Lumbee Tribe, Granville was born in Chadbourn, North Carolina, and graduated from Les Maxwell High School in 1965. He began his career as an electrician with King Electric in North Carolina before moving to Florida in the 70's, where he later retired from Morton Electric.
Granville enjoyed NASCAR races, traveling with his wife, gardening and spending time with family. His greatest joy in life was being PawPaw to his grandchildren. His sense of humor, storytelling, generosity towards others and love for his family will be missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held from 4:00PM – 6:00PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 335 East State Rd 434, Longwood, Florida. Reception immediately following at the family home.
