HICKS, HARRY GRAY, 75, of Orlando, died Friday, December 16, 2011. He was born on April 13, 1936 in Coushatta, LA to William and Pauline Hicks. Harry joined the Air Force in 1954. He was married for 37 years to Shirley who predeceased him in 1996. In 1974, Harry retired from the Air Force. Having been previously stationed in Orlando, Harry relocated his family there. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2002. Harry had a very big heart and always thought of others before himself. In retirement, he spent time volunteering for several organizations. He had a passion for wood working, gardening and especially dancing. Harry was a wonderful father. The happiest day of his life was when his only grandchild was born in 2002. Together, Harry, or Papau as he was called, and his grandson spent countless hours together doing things that a boy raised in the country could teach a little grandson. He also passed along his love of reading to his grandson. Another source of joy for Harry was his beloved dog Cindy. He rescued her and she brought him tremendous happiness and companionship. Harry will be deeply missed by family, friends, neighbors and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice House Hospice of the Comforter, 480 West Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714.
