Atkins, Hattie M.- Age 97, a long time resident of Orlando went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2004 as a result of a long period of declining health. Hattie was born in Tifton, Georgia on September 9, 1906 to Ben and Cora Sumner. She moved with her parents to Orlando in her early teens. She was the eldest of a brother and sister both of whom preceded her in death. In April 1930, she married Clayton Louis Treadway, a fireman with the Orlando Fire Department, who was killed in an auto accident in 1933. She married Burton R. Atkins in December 1944 and started her own nursing home and operated it until the 1970's when she retired. She is survived by her son, LTC Louis O. Treadway, USA (Ret.), and his wife, Doris, of Orlando, her granddaughter, Sydney A. Treadway Haskell, and her husband, Greg, of Rockledge, FL, two great-grandchildren, Christopher Elliott and Aaron Sincoski, her three nieces, Carolyn Ruhl, Pat Graham and Sue Walker. She is also survived by her step-granddaughter, Cindy Plante, her husband, Alan, and step-great-grandson, Chris, step-granddaughter, Stacy Powell, and step-great-grandson, Colton.
