Helen Hazel Wren Brown

Hazel Brown, 90, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018. She was born January 10, 1928, in Richmond County, Georgia to Arthur E. Wren, Sr. and Viola Holley. She attended Hood's Chapel elementary school in Richmond County and Tubman High School in Augusta, Georgia.
In the summer of 1947 she came to Florida with her girlfriend, Marilu Bivens to visit her brother and sister-in-law. Her brother was in the Navy and was stationed at a base in Daytona Beach, Florida. Hazel and Marilu went to Haines City to visit another friend and Hazel met Murryl J. "Shorty" Brown. He had been recently discharged from the Army and was working in the meat department of a small grocery store. They began dating and were married on January 18, 1948 in Haines City.
She is survived by two sons, Michael L. Brown, Orlando and Murray E. (Mary) Brown of Lake Mary. Three grandsons, Christopher R. (Heather) George, Ponte Vedra, Florida, Eric S. George, Marietta, Georgia and Steven M. Brown of Elijay, Georgia. Two granddaughters, Kristie (Butch) Devlin, Lake Mary, Florida and Bianca R. (Justin) Donahay in North Carolina. Three great grandchildren, Olivia Devlin, Lake Mary, Florida and Brett George and Devyn George, Ponte Vedra, Florida. Also, two step great granddaughters, Amanda Devlin, St. Cloud, Florida and Candace Devlin, Lake Mary, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband Murryl J. (Shorty) Brown (1986), daughter Patricia Elayne Brown George (2015), and a granddaughter Carissa Jean George (1983).
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m at South Ferncreek Community Church at 3839 South Ferncreek Avenue, Orlando, Florida.
