Helen Elizabeth Hicks, age 85, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. She was born in Orlando, Florida on September 5, 1934.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Newton A. and Minnie Lee Lingo; her son, William T. Hicks, Jr.; her siblings, Leola Burkett, Gladys Phelps, Walter Lingo, Catherin Lois Lingo, and Gene Lingo.
Helen is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Hicks; her son, Stephen (Sybil) Hicks; her grandchildren, Kim Beuth, Brandon Bush, Daniel Bush, and Mindy (Kevin) Nennig; her three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Long; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Helen was baptized at First Baptist Church Downtown while still in high school. She continued to attend church until her illness no longer allowed her to go. Helen worked for Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin) for 35 years; she worked her way up to a senior administrator. Helen was in the American Businesswomen Association (ABWA). She was a chapter president, Woman of the Year 1975 & 1985, and sponsored more than 11 members. Helen was the first to do so. After retiring, Helen joined the Does Drove 66 of Orlando Elks Lodge 1079. Chairwoman of the fashion show fundraiser and volunteered for many additional fundraisers. As a 5 year officer she was a Grand Lodge Member.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services are Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Orlando), 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando, Florida 32822 with Dr. Scott M. Shoffner officiating.
Interment will be on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 12:30 pm at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, Florida 32807.
In lieu of flowers, Helen's family has asked for
