Homer Clemens Gerber, 88, of Oviedo, Florida, passed away on December 27 of complications from cancer. Homer was born in Dalton, Ohio on April 23, 1936. He was married to Nancy Gerber, then Nancy Harlene Burnett, from December 21, 1973 until her death in 2011.
Homer graduated from Dalton High School, and studied at Bluffton University (then Bluffton College) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before receiving his Ph.D. from Florida State University. He had a lifelong career in teaching, culminating in 34 years as a professor of Mathematics and then Computer Science at the University of Central Florida, beginning as a charter faculty member of what was then Florida Technological University.
Homer was a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando. He had a lifelong passion for Bible Study, and for sports teams including his UCF Knights and Cleveland Guardians.
Homer was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, father Victor Benjamin Gerber, mother Gertrude Johnson Gerber, and sister Gretchen Gerber Boone. He is survived by his son Matthew and his sister Priscilla Gerber Adams.
