Horace Darnley Noel Cunningham, fondly known as "Kentish" to friends, was
born to Samuel and Rosalind Cunningham on December 23, 1940 in St. Vincent,
West Indies. After his early education, he attended the Boys' Grammar School
where he excelled in academics as well as sports.
After attaining high passes in school leaving Cambridge exams, his ambitious
nature qualified him for various government positions from 1958-1970. He
attended the university of the West Indies in Jamaica and acquired certification in Population Statistics. He acquired training in Labor Administration from the University of Oxford, which equipped him for the position of acting Labor Commissioner of St. Vincent from 1970-1980. Horace was a very challenging, articulate and carefree guy, in so much that he created many magnificent costumes and along with the Bridge Boys, led many carnival troupes to victory.
In 1964, he met the girl who would become his wife, Patricia Decima, affectionately known as "Dec". Their friendship blossomed and on October 31, 1970 they married. This union was blessed with two children. In 1980 the family migrated to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. There Horace worked for Island Finance a small loan corporation. In 1986 he was transferred to St. Thomas as a general manager. He also worked in St. Maarten and hired and trained personnel to become managers.
In 1995 he experienced severe eye problems which led to loss of sight in the left eye. So in 1999 after 19 years of outstanding service to Island Finance, Horace reluctantly retired from the job he never seemed to get tired of performing. He then relocated to Orlando, Florida with his wife. Within two seemingly short years, fate dealt him another blow. He came down with Parkinson's Disease. As the illness progressed, coupled with the limited sight in his right eye, he worshipped as often as possible at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and tended his garden. At times he was able to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Throughout the years, with his caring and trustworthy disposition, Horace was an inspiration to many people. Horace was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He is survived his wife Patricia, daughter Shara, son Juma and his wife Linda, grandsons Tahj, Jamal and Joel, brothers Norris, Keith and family, Byron and family, nieces June, Cheryl, Tansha, Kamaria and their families, nephew Rodney and family. In laws Juliette, Earl, Esther, Michelle, Vonette and their families and many other relatives and dear friends. Horace will be missed and will live on in our hearts.
