Howard E. Haines

July 11, 1926 — February 6, 2017

In loving memory of Howard E. Haines (90) who was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, to Howard and Katherine Haines. Known as Howard in business and at church, his family called him Mike, and his grandchildren renamed him Poppop. He always said his middle initial "E" stood for Everlasting, Howard Everlasting Haines.

Poppop graduated from Woodbury High School and enlisted at 17 in the United States Navy. He served as an Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 1946, and worked as a purchasing agent until his retirement at 67.

Poppop dedicated his time to helping raise his many beloved grandchildren and traveling the country he so dutifully served. Along with spending time with his family, Poppop was very involved in his church and helped with any activities that needed his hand.

Poppop adored his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Myra; sister Mary Scarduzio and her family; daughters Carol (Joe - deceased), Nancy (Ken), and Barbara (David); grandchildren Jenn (Ian), Michael (Allison), Christa, Steven, Katelyn, and Matthew; and great-grandson, Colin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
