Maj. Hugh Jackson Shelton, went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2010. Jack is survived by his beloved wife Dottie Merkle Shelton; daughter Susan Shelton of Raleigh, NC; daughter Dawn Chmiel and son in-law Chris of Fayetteville, NC; step-son, Larry Bond and daughter in-law Cindy of Winter Park; sister, Barbara Shelton Bailey of Blue Ridge, GA; granddaughters, Jacqueline and Savannah Bond; grandson, Gabe Chmiel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Shelton and Ruby Jackson Shelton. A graduate of Oakridge High School, Oak Ridge, TN, class of 1957, he continued his education attending the University of Tennessee, earning an engineering degree and ROTC graduate. Upon entering the Air Force, he flew T-38's as a pilot instructor and then C-130's where he served in Vietnam and flew many missions and was featured on the cover of Aerospace Magazine. After retiring from the Air Force, he entered the workforce with the IRS and retired in 2008. He was a member of University Carillon United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6-8PM Monday, June 7 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando. A memorial service will be held at 1:30PM Tuesday, June 8 at University Carillon United Methodist Church, 1395 Campus View Court, Oviedo, FL 32765.
