Issac Richard Horn
Taken from us suddenly and altogether too soon, Issac Richard Horn passed away on July 12, 2023 at the age of 70. He was born on March 1, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Isaac Robert Horn and Ramona Jane Shephard Horn. Growing up on a rural country farm, his childhood chores included hauling hay and caring for livestock. Richard's fondest childhood memories centered around time spent with his uncle, Ray Hodge, as well as the safety and love blanketed around him by his grandparents, Ernest Shephard and Grace Kennedy Shephard. His most beloved childhood pet was a horse named Ribbon, which he spoke about often in his stories with a tone of fondness and admiration. While in school, he participated in several athletic programs including basketball, football, and track and field, with his shot put record still standing to this day. Two of his favorite books that he read during that time were Man in the Moon and Beautiful Joe. The tenacity and strength he developed while participating in competitive sports, hustling extra money arm wrestling, and working diligently for his family's farm as a teenager was just the beginning of a blossoming dream that would grow into a roaring desire to be the best protector and provider he could be for himself and for those he held most dear. To accomplish this goal, he set out to own his own business and began working towards obtaining an electrical contractor's license. At the young age of 19, he was successful in passing the test and gaining his electrical contractor's license in the state of Oklahoma. As the years continued, Richard would become the first electrician in the state to be permitted to wire a home using Romex and would grow to be contracted regularly on large developments such as hospitals, schools and apartment complexes due to his reputation of dedication and dependability. After building a name for himself in Oklahoma and Texas, he moved to Florida in the 80's where he would spend the remainder of his life. Working across the entirety of Florida, he had the opportunity of being introduced to several employees and business partnerships over the years, many of which were fostered into lasting friendships. Richard, as we all knew he would be, was passionate about his work until the day he died and when asked about his favorite hobbies, he would often answer that his favorite hobby was work. Though he loved to mow the lawn, the only thing that would steal his time away from work was an opportunity to spend time with his grandkids. Together, they enjoyed watching old tv shows, indulging in dessert before their dinner, and attending every lunch date that became available. Whether they were calling out for Cowboy, Bubby, or Grandpa, he was always there. The pride and joy of his legacy can still be seen in everything he has left behind. His family, his truest friends, and his business will forever be a testament to the man he was and the humble yet grand life he lived. A father, partner, provider, grandfather, great grandfather, friend to many, and so much more - Richard Horn will be dearly missed.
He did not speak much about his spiritual life, but was involved in Sunday school as a child, attended a Southern Baptist church in adulthood and was baptized by Brother Harvey Spears at the age of 31. He was often heard speaking of his "maker" and knew nothing happened out of time with what the maker had planned for him and felt blessed and astonished at times with the miracles that he had witnessed in his lifetime.
He is survived by his mother; his sisters, Phyllis and Darlene; his ex-wife Rebecca; his partner, Lisa ; his children, Jennifer, Christopher, Brent, and Tara; his godson Tyler; his grandchildren McKayla,Trinity, BJ, Christina, Scotty, Kathrine, Little Chris, Lauren, Dani, Willa, and Maverick; he is also survived by several great grandchildren.
