Garland Holt, 82 of Orlando passed away on Wednesday September 7, 2011. Garland was born on March 19, 1929 to Herschel E. Holt and Delree Hulme Holt in Anderson, South Carolina. The family later moved to Clearwater, South Carolina.
He graduated from Langley – Clearwater - Bath High School in 1950 where he participated in track, baseball and football. He attended Spartanburg Junior College, now Spartanburg Methodist College, under a work-study program playing baseball with the Mill team where he worked.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War and served in Hawaii maintaining planes. After discharge he worked in Commercial Printing until retirement. After retiring he joined the Orange County Master Gardner Program where he volunteered for several years. He also maintained an extensive vegetable garden.
Garland is survived by his wife Marilyn of Orlando, children Amy Holt of Orlando, Julie Holt Shaffer of Kissimmee, Florida, Daniel Miller of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Charles Miller of Marathon, Florida, Mark Miller of Fellsmere, Florida, Martha Wells of Concord, New Hampshire and seven grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
