" Capt'n " Jack Burnett ,74, of 2453 Long Meadow Way, Orlando, Fl., passed away peacefully on Friday August 24,2018. Born in Jacksonville, Fl., on September 12,1943, to Ola Mae Harper & Jackson Columbus Burnett, who predeceased him.
Jack attended Miami Edison School & after graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While serving his country he was part of " Operation Deep Freeze " in the Antarctic on the ship USS Durant. Also, stationed on the Destroyer USS Hopewell & the USS Robison, as a Signalman. Jack was a Viet Nam Veteran, serving on River Patrol. He was awarded the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal & the National Defense Service Medal.
Jack loved all kinds of music & could be found out on any dance floor, showing off his smooth moves! He was the life of any party, told inappropriate jokes, loved nature & wanted equality for everyone. He had wanderlust, living in Washington, Alaska & Mexico, before returning to his roots in Florida. He gave great hugs, made mistakes & apologized for them. He drank Jack Daniels & was a motor cycle enthusiast, raced Off Shore Power Boats & loved being near the ocean & those he loved.
Jack leaves behind a wife of 18 years, Kathy Shaller. A son, Todd ( Tonya ) Burnett of Longwood, Fl. A daughter, Brooke (Andy ) Zacher of Milwaukee, Wis. Four Grandchildren, Ciara, Cade, Jack & Harrison. A half sister, Theresa Burnett and many other relatives and many many friends. Jack had an " Easy Going " air about him & got along with everyone.
His life made an indelible impression on everyone he met. He was a man of many experiences & he had a story for each of them.
A memorial at Newcomer Funeral Home, 335 East State Road 434, Longwood, Fl. will be held on Sunday Sept.2,2018 at 2:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
