James Cleveland Hughes, 76, of Orlando, FL has been called home to be with the Lord as of May 10, 2015. "Jim" was preceded in death by his parents Spencer and Irene Hughes, brother William Hughes, and survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Joyce Carolyn Torbett Hughes, son James Cleveland Hughes II and Theresa Ann Marie Radzik Hughes, daughter Jeannine Candace Hughes Baird and Christopher McCrary Baird and four grandchildren, Jessica Marie Hughes, James Cleveland Hughes III, Melissa Ann Hughes, and Hannah Kathryn Baird, all living in Oviedo. Miami native, Jim, traveled the globe while serving his country as a U.S. submariner in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, Jim served on such boats as the USS AmberJack, USS Grenadier, USS Bushnell , and the USS Nathan Hale (SSBN-623), to name a few. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he continued his service with the government with the United States Postal Service, in which, he retired after 19 years. He was an active member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church and campaigned with many elected officials to advance his community. He was also an active member of the Pocatello Elks Lodge #674. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10:00 am at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Final resting place will be Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
