James D. Thumpston, Master Chief USN, Retired with 33 years of service to his country. His last assignment was as the Command MAster Chief of the Navy School of Music at Little Creek, VA. He wrote the books of instruction for the school while he served in that capacity. Born on March 22, 1933, James played for church services every Sunday since his teenage years, while in the Navy and after his retirement. He volunterred many hours in his service to the V.A. Nursing Home in Orlando where he was a resident at his death on December 25, 2008. Member and past officer of the Navy Mussicians Association, member of the Fleet Reserve, and life member and past Commander of VFW Post 4287, Orlando. Survived by wife, Dolores; children, Calvin Day and wife Dolores; Noreen Swaszowski and husband Richard; grandchildren, Michelle Day, Rocco Day and great granddaughter, Juliet. Burial will be at sea with the U.S. Navy providing full honors.
