James Martin Campbell

d. August 8, 2009

James Martin Campbell, 70, our wonderful father, brother and friend departed this world on Saturday, August 8, 2009. James's life was full of blessings and success. He was born to Horace and Goldie Campbell in Hampton, TN, the youngest son of a large loving family. In his early teens he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Macon Heavy Cruiser (January 26, 1956 Company 61, 10th regiment, 103rd battalion), and had the opportunity to travel and visit other areas of our great world. Upon completion of his active military service, he continued service in the Navy reserves for two years during that time Dad decided to relocate to Orlando, Florida. There he joined many of his immediate family members who were already enjoying Florida beaches and abundant sunshine. While living in Orlando, Dad worked for Crown Cork & Seal until the business shutdown. Resourceful as usual, and always employed he then relocated to the Tampa Bay area and worked for the St Petersburg Times eventually moving back to Orlando after a few years to work for Boise Cascade which was eventually acquired by Sunoco Industries, in 2001 he retired after 27-years of dedicated and faithful service. Dad received numerous awards of recognition and contributed to many process improvements within Sunoco being recognized as employee of the year. What little off time he had he could be found on the beach, playing Frisbee, throwing a football, and enjoying life. Dad enjoyed his "real job" but he had a gift performing what most refer to as "handyman" work and expertly installed tile floors, roofs, and finish carpentry work for many of his neighbors, family members, and friends. Dad always had a "can do" attitude and would get the job done. Numerous friends and neighbors have taken the time to pay their respects and shared condolences and wonderful stories about our father. His immediate family, daughter Karen Campbell-Simes and brother, Michael Stills, and their respective spouses, Jack Simes and Kellie Stills of Yuma, Arizona and other family members appreciate all the kind words of comfort and support. He has a grandson and grand daughter-in-law, Brandon and Trina Vanhorn , of Prescott, Arizona, and granddaughter Lacie Stills of Destin, Florida. The wonderful stories of how others were influenced by our Dad and the time we were allotted to share with our father will not be forgotten soon. Dad may be gone but he will never be forgotten by his family, friends, and all those whose life he has touched. In order to respect our father's wishes no services will be held. We would like to request in lieu of flowers donations be sent in memory of James Campbell to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 or your local Hospice facility.
