James Allen Mitchell, 92, Port Orange, Fl., went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2018.
Born on May 8, 1926 in East McKeesport, Pa., he was the son of James and Katherine Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Grace Mitchell and his oldest son, James Allen Mitchell Jr.
James "Allen" was employed as an electrician at Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach and retired as an electrician from the Palm Beach County Schools on July 31,1991. Along his journey, he was a truck driver, co-owner of Beacon Engineering in Irwin, Pa., and a mechanic for both Eastern and Alleghany Airlines.
James served in the U.S. Navy in 1944-45. He attended Spartan School of Aeronautics earning his Airframe and Engine (Powerplant) license as well as his private pilot license. Applying his skill, knowledge and passion for aviation, he built his own Experimental Aircraft, an Acrobatic Steen Skybolt. He resided in the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community for 20 years.
He is survived by two sons, William (Carol), Palm Beach Gardens and Jeffrey (Brenda), New Smyrna Beach, two daughters, Cheryl Felman (Daniel), Winter Springs, and Jane Eckman (Joseph), Orlando, and daughter-in-law Dawn Mitchell, Elizabethtown, Pa., 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Fl. on July 02, 2018.
