Swanson, James Robert "Swanny"- Age 58, Passed away peacefully March 22, 2005.
Born in Los Angles, California on August 12, 1946 he lived in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio and Miami, Florida. Graduated from McArthur High School in Hollywood, FL.
He served in the US Navy as a Photographers Mate 1964 – 1974. His tours of duty included RVAH Squadron, Sanford Air Station, FICPACFAC (Fleet Intelligence) and Vietnam. He retired in 1974. After retirement, he served as a Civil Servant member of the Naval Training Centers Photo Lab from 1975 – 1988. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Florida Southern College and his Master's from Pepperdine University. In 1988 Swanny joined NASA at Kennedy Space Center working Quality Surveillance and retired Sept. 1999 as NASA Section Chief for Shuttle Quality Surveillance.
Shihan J. R. Swanson' taught karate in the Philippines and at The Swanson School of Karate, Kyokushin-Kai in Orlando.
He is survived by his daughter Bobbie (Frank) DeZayas of Weston FL; son James R. Swanson II (Christy) Swanson of Cape Coral, FL; sister Charlene (Gary) Galbrecht, FL.; sister Deborah Busby, Tx, brother Stephen Swanson, FL.; grandchildren Andrew and Alexandra and eight nieces and nephews.
Swanson lived for his country, his family, the Navy, motorcycles and his pets.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 29, at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 5900 Oleander Dr., Orlando.
