James Vernon Smith

August 14, 1942 — May 21, 2022

James Vernon (Jim V.) Smith of Longwood, Florida, died peacefully in the care of his family on May 21, 2022. Jim was born on August 14, 1942, in Independence, Missouri and moved to Orlando, Florida at 6 months of age. His proud parents Evelyn and Mort Smith raised Jim in Orlando. He attended Boone High School and served proudly in the United States Army. Jim married Virginia Butler in Orlando, Florida, on December 22, 1962, where they would later raise their family.

Jim was in the paint business for 50 years in Orlando, retiring in 2020. Jim had a passion for the New York Yankees, airplanes, airshows, children, grandchildren, his close friendships and his beloved wife, Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his son, Ted V.(Wendi) Smith, four grandchildren, Jessica, Cassidy, Anna Maria, Aidan, and one great-grandchild, Phoenix. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his wife, Virginia Smith and their daughter, Stephanie R. Smith. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

We express our gratitude to ORMC's doctors and nurses along with VITAS Healthcare/Hospice team. Newcomer Funeral Home in Longwood, Florida, will provide cremation services. A celebration of his life will be on June 8, 1 pm at Reiter Park (311 Warren Avenue) – Shelter E, Longwood, Florida. This is a very casual, come as you are, informal gathering of celebration.
