It is with heavy sadness that we announce the death of James David Van Dam, who passed on February 9th 2017. A time of gathering will be held at 12:00 pm, Wednesday February 15th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 355 E Sr-434, Longwood, FL. Visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens, 3229 E Semoran Blvd, Apopka, FL.
Jim was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 6th, 1936 to Abraham Van Dam and Ruth Van Dam. Jim's family grew to include Joan Boone, Jerry Van Dam, and Judy Bowman his siblings. The family upheld close bonds throughout the years while maintaining a strong residence in central Florida.
Jim traveled between Michigan, Indiana and Florida for much of his young life. He joined the Marines in 1955, and his experience as a Marine instilled a lifelong patriotism and pride that he carried throughout his life. He enjoyed working with his hands, which led to a life in construction and contracting for 50 years.
Jim's lifelong love of fishing led him and his wife, Judy Van Dam to Astor Florida where he lived on the St. Johns River. Here he caught some fish and fabricated the rest. Jim enjoyed life. Jim had a generous spirit and found great pleasure when others were happy.
Jim is survived by his wife Judy Van Dam of Astor, Florida, his sons and daughter; Jerry Van Dam, John Van Dam, Jason Van Dam, Jason Cline and Shannon Cline and his grandchildren Donna Lynn, Brandon Roberts, Johnny Van Dam, Mackenzie Cline and Madison Cline.
