"I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart…." Philippians 1:3-7
Jean Marie Emmans died at home in Orlando, Florida, on January 2, 2009, in the presence of her beloved family after 84 years of a life well lived.
Jean Marie was born on December 4, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio, to John and Freda Kendrick. At the age of 12, Jean gave her life to Jesus Christ and began a life-long walk with Him. On December 19, 1944, Jean married the love of her life, Pastor John Emmans, and began her partnership with him in the work of the gospel that was lived out in five different states and ten churches over their 60 years of ministry together. Jean's devotion to her husband was most clearly demonstrated as she faithfully cared for and served him in the final years of his life.
Jean's greatest ministry was to her family and friends. She truly loved her family and faithfully served others through her love, prayers, and words. Jean had a gift for remembering the special events in the lives of those she loved and consistently sent cards and letters with words of encouragement, congratulations, sympathy, and care.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Pastor John Emmans, and is survived by her daughter, Susan Arvan (Bill); sons Stephen (Jan) and John (Cathy); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She has left a legacy of love for Christ as her children and grandchildren continue to partner in the work of the gospel.
Jean Marie Emmans was a most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her absence is strongly felt. Yet we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We are confident that Jesus Christ has completed His good work in her, and though she is no longer with us, we hold her in our hearts and rejoice that she is in her Father's house.
A private family memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009.
