Joan Francis Hughes

January 8, 1930 — May 9, 2017

Beloved Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning May 9, 2017.
Joan was born January 8, 1930 and grew up on a dairy farm in Big Bend, Wisconsin. She moved to Miami, Florida in 1950 to live with her Aunt Amelia. There she met her husband Bill and they were married. Together they raised three children Bobby, Margie and Donnie. She retired from Dade County School Board in 1990 and enjoyed summers up in Burnsville, North Carolina and winters on the farm in Naples Fl.

Later in life she enjoyed church activities, singing in the choir at the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo and at Celo United Methodist Church in North Carolina. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed making hats that she donated to various hospitals for newborn babies. She believed in giving back to the community and knitted over 1200 newborn hats for the local hospitals.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Diane) Hughes, Margaret (Randy) Rothman and Donald (Nancy) Hughes, along with 5 grandchildren, Daniel (Molly) Hughes, Timothy (Rebecca) Hughes, Jeffrey (Stefani) Hughes, Nikki Rothman and Kurt Rothman. She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren and is also survived by two brothers and one sister, John (Muriel) Bartholomew, Robert (Carol) Bartholomew and Peggy Tess.

We believe these verses in Corinthians 13, describes Our Mother the best.
Love is patient, love is kind, It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
