Joan passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning on February 25, 2019 of natural causes. Joan was born Joan Georgette Crawford, on June 5, 1928 in Detroit Michigan, to Peter McNeill Crawford (Glasgow, Scotland) and Linda Romanos (Beirut, Lebanon).
When Joan was a little girl she enjoyed playing with her brother John Crawford. They spent summers in Sarnia, Canada, where they swam and romped on the beach of Lake Huron. When Joan was 14, her mother passed away after a long battle with cancer leaving Joan and brother Johnnie to help their beloved Father take care of their two younger siblings. Joan was a very smart student being tapped for Honor Society in 1943. During the late '30's she stood in line during the depression with her ration tickets and during the early 40's she sold tickets and poppies for the American Legion in Redford Township, Michigan. She loved to dance and had many dates and dancing partners.
She worked at Kresge, Zimmerman Boat and Trailer, Harry Wolfe Realty and Hot and Cold in Detroit Michigan. She became a much sought after Bookkeeper, Accountant, Controller, and Office Manager.
Joan left Michigan in 1960 and drove to Florida with her daughter, Cheryl arriving just one week before Hurricane Donna. In Orlando Joan worked for Able Equipment, Allison Plating, Ernie Kelly's Britt's , and Kennedy Concrete where she retired. Joan bought her home in English Estates (Seminole County) in 1966.
Joan had many friends and belonged to many groups and organizations. Joan was a vibrant, loving, generous, intelligent, and "oh so funny" woman with a memory sharper at 90 than most at 20. Joan will be deeply missed.
Joan is survived by daughter, Cheryl (James) McCormick Winter Springs, FL, and stepson Jon (Karen ) Farr Lanark Village, FL, four grandchildren, Nicky Defazio,(Altamonte Springs) Randy DeFazio (Altamonte Springs), Charlie DeFazio (Winter Springs), and Annie DeFazio (Orlando) , and 2 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Logan Defazio.
