“Old Soldiers Never Die, They Just Fade Away”
On March 26, 2025, Joe B. Stevens, left for a new duty station in heaven to be with his Lord and Savior.
Joe was born in 1936 in Dillon County, South Carolina. His parents were the late, Pearly M. and Roberta A. Stevens. Joe is survived by the love of his life, Marguerite and two daughters, Joline M. Graham (Deceased) and Ruann M. Boatright, and her husband, Darin. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Erin (Wesley), Amy (Steven), Tomi (Michael) and Morgan (Ryan), as well as five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Briana, Michaela, Jodi, and Maverick. In addition, he leaves brother-in-law, Stephen P. Tobin (Diane), sister-in-law, Susannah Ehrlich and many loved nieces and nephews.
Joe served his country with distinction for 21 years and retired from the US Army. He was a combat veteran, served as a platoon sergeant in the 9th infantry during the Vietnam War. Joe received many awards and decorations during his military career.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Truth and Friendship Lodge No 828 for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the Disabled Veteran.
After retiring from the Army, he furthered his education with a business degree from Orlando College. Joe built his second career with the City of Winter Park for 20 years where he was Chief of Building and Maintenance Division.
Joe had many talents. He loved woodworking, building and designing furniture, and gardening. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was happiest when on the water. He loved the adventure of travel. He was fortunate to visit many countries, but always said the U.S. was his favorite.
Joe fought a long hard battle with courage for many years with Parkinson’s and heart disease.
Joe will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his warm smile, his love and strong sense of family, and his culinary skill for the best ribs ever! His legacy will live on in our hearts.
Visitation is Monday, March 31, 2025 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm with funeral service starting at 12pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel), 3806 Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park, Florida 32792. Pastor Tom Hensley is officiating.
Interment will follow at Pineywood Cemetery.
