Joel Lee Joyner
11/15/42 – 3/19/11
Joel Lee Joyner, 68, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Orlando, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lorelea Joyner; His son, Kenneth Joel Joyner and daughter-in-law, Kymberly Joyner; His daughter, Kimberly Ann Massari and son-in law, Glenn Massari; His two granddaughters, Morgan Massari and Mackenzie Massari; His two sisters, Ramona Pressley and Dollie Whitten; and many other family and friends.
Joel was born in Athens, Georgia, the son of Millard and Edna Joyner. Living the majority of his life in Orlando, Florida. He attended Cherokee Jr. High School and Boone High School in Orlando. He then became a Seminole attending Florida State University. Joel had a great love for FSU football!
After graduating college, Joel went on to serve his country in Vietnam as a Ranger in the United States Army. He became an officer while in the Army. He served and led with honor!
He started and ran a successful commercial painting business (Accent Painting and Decorating) for 30 years. His business and life success was due to his hard work, his integrity, his honesty, his treatment of others, and above all, his trust in God.
Joel lost his battle to cancer but that was not his life. He had a love for his family and for others. The YMCA held a special place for him as he played an active role with them in many different capacities over the last 50 years. He helped run camps, leagues and different youth activities. He had a love for any kind of "ball" but his passion was racquetball. He met some of his closest friends on those courts at the "Y". You would have found him there at least 3 times a week!
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to a children's scholarship fund with the YMCA set up in Joel's honor.
