John C. McCann Jr. was born in Brooklyn, NY, December 24 1935, to the late Mary and John C. McCann. He was the oldest of 4 siblings. He was honorably discharged from the Navy where he never served on a ship but circled the globe as a radioman for Naval Aviation. After which, he went to work for AT&T in NYC, where he was a computer programmer, manager, and systems analyst.
John was a talented singer, and throughout his life, he was active in singing groups and musical theater which included performances in The Mikado, Annie Get your Gun, Anything Goes, Ziegfeld Follies, and others.
John and his young family moved from Brooklyn, and then lived in White Plains NY for 20 years, where he was a member of Knollwood CC. The family next moved to Orlando, FL where he continued his love of the game at Rio Pinar CC, and where he was a member of the Rio Pinar Singers. In addition, he was a member of The American Legion, The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels.
John was pre-deceased by his sister Kathleen Volpi, and brother Patrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rita, children: Gregory (Cassie), Tara (Ed Robinson), and Christopher (Sarah), and 8 wonderful grandchildren: Elena, John (Jack), John, Katherine, Maximus, Holly, Evelyn, and Olivia.
In addition, he is survived by his sister Frances (Alexander) Wieder, 9 sister-in laws, 8 brother-in-laws, and over 60 nieces, nephews and their spouses.
John was known for his gregarious personality, his compassion, and his generosity.
