John H. Zimmermann, was born in Cliffside Park, NJ on July 5, 1931, and he went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He resided 46 years in NJ and 36 years in Orlando, FL. He married Eleanor Walther on June 5, 1953.
Upon graduating from Cliffside Park HS (1949), John earned a BS in Business Administration from Rutgers University (1953) and an MBA in Management from the NYU Graduate School of Business (1959). He worked for the NJ Bell Telephone Company (1953-65), for NY AT&T (1965-87), and for Long Hill Chapel as business manager (1987-1989).
John served as 1st Lt in the USAF active duty (1953-55) and as Captain in the USAF reserve (1955-61).
John was a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando (1978-2014), and served with New Member Orientation and Mentoring. He was a former member of Long Hill Chapel, Chatham, NJ, and Pascack Bible Church, Hillsdale, NJ, and served as Evangelism Explosion Area Rep for NJ. He volunteered in the jail ministry and at the Morristown NJ Memorial Hospital and at ORMC since 2012. He served as Westwood, NJ councilman and as Republican County Committee Municipal Chairman.
John is survived by his children, Joanne (Richard) Erickson; and John (Sara) Zimmermann III; and Rich (Trudy) Zimmermann. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor (Walther) Zimmermann, his parents, John and Sophie (Trapp) Zimmermann, and his sister, Doris (Zimmermann) Letson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 25th at 2 p.m. at Henry Chapel, First Baptist Church, Orlando.
